Right, Now that you know what your microbiome is exactly, we can now look at why it's so important to us.

In the previous blog, I wrote about the microbiome as being the infantry at the front line of the immune system. It's in charge of kicking out the unwelcome germs we come across daily through merely living.

In truth, the gut microbiome is more like the scales of justice. There are all sorts of bacteria in our gut microbiome; both good bacteria and bad bacteria; and as long as we keep the good gut bacteria well supported, our immune system will remain strong.

However, if you mainly eat junk food or your diet contains many high carbohydrate meals and high sugar meals. You may find you are feeding mainly the bad bacteria and your gut microbiome looks like Avengers movie, the gut world overrun with Thanos's army (bad bacteria) and the Avengers (good bacteria) have been starved so they're not strong enough to keep the bad bacteria in check.

"This much I know. If you are what you eat, then I only want to eat the good stuff!" ~ Ratatouille (the movie)

Or in this case, I only want to eat what feeds the good guys (good bacteria)! Stay tuned, in the next food blog I'm looking into the difference between prebiotics and probiotics and it totally expands on what exactly the good stuff for our gut really is!
