Today I want to talk about Turmeric now that winter has started and the clocks have gone forward.
Tumeric is one of those versatile amazing ayurvedic spices that can transform a dish and enhance health and wellness at the same time. I love incorporating this amazing anti-inflammatory herb into my daily health routines in the following ways.
It is important to find effortless ways of adding healthy wholesome herbs into your food in a way that is enjoyable and nutritious to support your health and wellness goals. I think Turmeric is one of those under-utilised herbs that has such amazing health benefits.
I will share some of my favourite recipes and ways of using Turmeric in my diet.
1. My Favourite Turmeric Collagen Latte
Start off with a ¼ to a ½ teaspoon of Tumeric powder (preferably organic)
1 cup of milk of your choice dairy or non-dairy
Heat up the milk and add the turmeric powder in
Mix until the milk has heated up
Add in 1 spoon of collagen
Pour into a cup and top with a dash of black pepper and cinnamon to taste
Sweeten to taste with stevia or honey
2. Taka Dahl
I found a really great recipe for Dahl which I have adapted and it has become a favourite of mine over the years.
I use Yellow mung beans, ½ tsp turmeric, water, a pinch of Himalayan salt which I boil until it is cooked and at the end, I add a good handful of freshly cut coriander
3. Tumeric Rice
Yellow rice is a thing in Cape Town and is one of the favourite traditional Cape Malay dishes that is served with curries and other dishes in Cape Town. So this is something that I grew up with and have come to love.
Add a pinch or more depending on how strong you like it to the water before you boil the rice
4. Tumeric flavoured Roast vegetables
I love adding some Tumeric to my roast vegetables like cauliflower, courgette, fennel and onion.
