The thyroid is the organ that has to filter out the excess toxins in the body. The more toxins in the body the harder the thyroid has to work. Did you know that you can be ingesting loads more toxins in through the food you eat due to the pesticides that are sprayed on your food? Some foods are more heavily sprayed than others.

Dr Terry Wahls of The Wahls Protocol also talks about this and the importance of good organic foods.

So what is this all about?

The dirty dozen is a list of the top 15 foods that are most heavily sprayed with pesticides.

The clean 15 is a list of food least likely to have pesticide residue left on food. These include

The dirty dozen list for 2018 includes:

Strawberries, spinach, nectarines, apples, grapes, peaches, cherries, pears, tomatoes, celery, potatoes and sweet bell peppers.

The clean 15 list for 2018 includes:

Avocados, sweet corn, pineapples, cabbages, onions, frozen sweet peas, papayas, asparagus, mangoes, eggplants, honeydews, kiwis, cantaloupes, cauliflower and broccoli.

I have been shopping according to the clean 15 and the dirty dozen for the past 10 years and where possible, I eat as much organic produce as possible. Why do I do this? I do this to limit the amount of toxins my body has to filter out and cope with for optimal energy levels, robust health and wellness.

The microbiome is the amazing gut bacteria that we have in our digestive tract that enhances and supports our health and immunity. The better we look after the microbiome, the better our health, the stronger our immune systems, the better our energy levels. So it is in our best interested to get more aware about what we are putting in our bodies in terms of goodness and toxins and how we can avoid taking in additional toxins by becoming more aware of how the food was produced.

I hope you find this as eye-opening as I did when I first learnt about this and implemented the changes in my healthy lifestyle.
